As New Economics for Women (NEW) approaches its 40th anniversary of empowering women and their families, we reflect with deep gratitude on the transformative leadership of Maggie Cervantes. Over the years, Maggie’s innovative vision and steadfast dedication have guided NEW through numerous successes, significantly impacting countless lives. Her tenure as Executive Director, which concluded at the end of June, marks the end of a significant era filled with groundbreaking achievements and progress.

We are thrilled to announce that, effective July 1st, 2024, the Board of Directors has appointed Leticia Andueza as the new leader of NEW. Leticia, who previously served as Associate Executive Director, exemplifies our commitment to nurturing leaders from within our organization. With over two decades of invaluable experience at NEW, she has been instrumental in shaping our organizational culture, infrastructure, policies, strategies, and fundraising efforts. Leticia’s profound understanding of our mission and her unwavering dedication position her as the ideal leader to guide us forward.

Together with our dedicated board and staff, Leticia reaffirms our unwavering commitment to empowering generations of under-resourced women and their families to flourish. As we embark on this new chapter, we are filled with optimism and enthusiasm, deeply appreciative of Maggie’s enduring legacy and excited for the promising future ahead under Leticia’s remarkable leadership. The journey ahead promises continued innovation and success, driven by our shared mission and the collective strength of our community.
Bea Stotzer, President, Board of Directors

In my 31 years with NEW, it has been an honor and privilege to witness the remarkable economic transformation of the women and families touched by our organization. What started with a modest $75,000 grant has grown into a $300 million economic force. Together, we have built 1,800 units of affordable housing and numerous community facilities, empowering countless families through economic mobility programs, many led by single mothers striving to achieve homeownership and economic stability.

Throughout the years, I have been inspired by the extraordinary achievements of the women and families who have passed through our doors. NEW has become a powerful voice for systemic change, advocating for women’s empowerment in their daily lives. My heart is filled with joy knowing I played a part in making dreams come true.

As I pass the torch, I am confident in Leticia’s ability to champion Latinas and their families continuing our mission with unwavering passion and dedication. The future is bright, and I look forward to seeing the continued success and positive impact of NEW under her leadership.
Maggie Cervantes, Executive Director

I am profoundly delighted and grateful to the Board of Directors for entrusting me with the monumental responsibility of leading NEW into is 40th anniversary and beyond.

I am honored to build on the strong foundation that Maggie and the entire team have created. I consider this new beginning a defining moment in our effort to anchor this esteemed organization, scale our work and impact, and continue to transform the lives of women and their families.
